[Edit]There are no liner notes to this intriguing Anthony Braxton set taken from a concert. Braxton and his four sidemen perform his episodic work "Composition 343," a lengthy performance that alternates between written sections, free-form blowing, and sound explorations. Some of the playing by the musicians is a bit eerie and occasionally witty, with odd sounds filling in the time between the blowing sections. Braxton mostly plays alto and sopranino and it is during his solos that the music is at its most exciting. His sidemen are not particularly distinctive and there are meandering stretches, but overall this set holds one's interest.
