Details
[Edit]Recorded in 1982 at London’s Brixton Studio and then shelved until 1990, The Barracudas’ Garbage Dump Tapes was irreverently titled after Charles Manson’s song “Garbage Dump.” Starting with the jangly power pop of “Inside Mind,” this set picks up right where 1981’s Drop Out with the Barracudas left off, sans Southern California surf-culture worship. The catchy “Hear Me Calling” is a powerfully performed rocker that turns up the fuzzbox to carry the quartet full circle: here we have an English band inspired by early-'80s Los Angelino musicians paying tribute to the '60s British Invasion. “Dead Skin” shows punk inflections, where throttled rhythms become nearly unhinged with driving guitar riffs and angst-ridden lyrics. Similarly, the punchy “Next Time Round” carries shades of The Jam’s way of punctuating go-go mod-pop with angry punk tension.
