Two broadcasts of Benny Goodman's Camel Caravan radio shows, minus most of the commercials, and singer Martha Tilton (who was ill) are featured on this CD compilation. Though there is a bit of wow and almost unavoidable surface noise present,

the performances are consistently at a high level. Goodman is at his very best during this period, and guitarist Benny Heller is extensively featured as the only soloist in "Oh, Lady Be Good!" One unusual number is "China Stomp," a reworking of "Chinatown, My Chinatown" which features Jess Stacy and Lionel Hampton sharing the piano. The sound on the second broadcast is a little more shaky, though the trio arrangement of "You're Blaze" and the quartet performance of "The Sheik of Araby" swing nicely. While several of the selections from both programs have been issued on better-sounding CDs by Signature and Columbia, or on LP (Doctor Jazz), this CD compilation is the only one featuring the music portions of both shows pretty much in their entirety. Not quite an essential release by Benny Goodman, it's worth acquiring if found at a reasonable price.
