Details
[Edit]The collector's label reissued on LP in chronological order most of Charlie Barnet's studio recordings. The first 20 volumes cover the more familiar years but Vol. 21 finds the big band making a quick transition from swing to bop. In addition to some remakes from 1947 that often feature the young Clark Terry, the orchestra is heard on their lone 1948 recording ("The Redskin Rhumba") and then playing some heated bop in 1949 including Gil Fuller's "Cu-ba," "Charlie's Other Aunt" and "Overtime." Since most of these relatively obscure recordings are rare (as are those in Vol. 22) and unlikely to be reissued on CD soon, this LP is essential for Charlie Barnet collectors.
