[Edit]Considering his stature, it is surprising that the exciting trumpeter Charlie Shavers did not lead more sessions throughout his career. This set, only his second LP as a leader, is purely mood music with concise and very melodic versions of ten familiar ballads. Shavers, who is backed by a large string orchestra, shows off the prettier side of his tone, but nothing all that stirring occurs.
