Cortijo recorded in the early '70s, and this is his first hit of the decade. The band, for the first time, includes the trombone sound in the brass lineup, possibly keeping up with the modern New York salsa trend that was beginning to kick in. Co-producer/tunesmith C. Curet Alonso contributes four songs: the title hit (the island's Top Ten in 1971 for a least four weeks); "Pa' Guayama," a dedication to Alonso's hometown; and "San Juan 450," a celebration of the foundation of the island's capital city. Fe Cortijo (the bandleader's niece), Che Delgado, and Kike Fuentes contribute greatly with their high-spirited vocals. Another swinging jewel by Rafael Cortijo and his gang. ~ José A.
