For this Bethlehem reissue LP, tenor saxophonist Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis teams up with either Doc Bagby or Shirley Scott on organ, sometimes Carl Pruitt or Bill Pemberton on bass, drummers Charlie Rice or Arthur Edgehill and the congas of Ray Baretto. The concise renditions of a dozen songs (three group originals and nine standards) all clock in around three-minutes apiece and were made primarily for the jukebox audience so there is an emphasis on the melodies and in maintaining a solid rhythm for a dancing audience. However the music (which is overdue to be reissued on CD) still communicates pretty well and should be of interest to jazz listeners.
