[Edit]To celebrate Elvis Presley’s 75th birthday, this 100-track collection, featuring Elvis’ 30 #1 hit singles, key album tracks, live performances and a few rarities, makes another strong case for the continued importance and relevance of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Presley was an incredibly diverse performer. From the personal recording of “My Happiness” made as a gift for his mother in 1953 through the Sun singles, “That’s All Right,” “Mystery Train,” the early RCA singles, “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Hound Dog,” “Don’t Be Cruel” and the rest of his dominating career (“Are You Lonesome Tonight?,” “Viva Las Vegas,” “In the Ghetto,” “Suspicious Minds,” and “Burning Love”), Presley sang everything with authority. The 100th track of the collection is a 2002 JXL Radio Remix Edit of Presley’s 1968 single “A Little Less Conversation” that was commissioned for Nike’s World Cup ad campaign and became a #1 hit in more than 20 countries worldwide. Presley’s influence and importance continues into the new century. This chronologically arranged collection of highlights is as solid as you’re likely to find.
