Erroll Garner was a whimsical, rambunctious improviser and a merry master of melodic mutation. Every tune that fell into his clutches found itself undergoing perpetual reinvention as its tropes rode above the clouds on Garner's private harmonic gyroscope or halted, tiptoed back and darted forward, pleasantly entangled in his silly putty sensibilities. Yet at no point did Garner ever stray very far from the basic structure of the song; he was and still is among the most accessible of all jazz pianists. Bouncin' with Me is an Erroll Garner sampler that focuses mainly on what could be termed his Bounce Methodology. This involves a chunky approach to rhythm that is friendly, funny and invigorating. Three of the twelve titles contain the word "Bounce" with good reason; indeed Garner's Bounce Dynamic is present throughout the collection, even surreptitiously as a propulsive tendency during the slower, more gradually spooled "Mood Indigo" and "Sweet Lorraine." Bouncin' with Me is packaged without any discographical information or what used to be called "liner notes". The CD "booklet" contains only advertisements.
