Swinging forth in the grand tradition of the Modernaires, the Lennon Sisters, and Manhattan Transfer is the vocal jazz ensemble Five By Design. Featuring Terence Niska, Lorie Carpenter-Niska, Kurt Niska, Catherine Farr-Scott, and Michael Swedberg, Five By Design perform in a classic swing style. Originally commissioned as a show for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 1999, Club Swing is a collection of songs made popular during the war years and featured in many Hollywood films of the time. Perhaps not as rambunctious as other neo-swing outfits, Five By Design nonetheless display impeccable vocal chops perfectly suited to delivering this peppy music with class. It doesn't hurt that they recorded with a full swing orchestra and wear vintage clothes.
