[Edit]Stockholm, Sweden's Free Loan Investments mark their American debut with this abundantly upbeat six-track disc on California's Shelflife Records. Amanda Aldervall's serene vocals lead the way on the opening track, "In the Park," backed by festive instrumentation as she croons about a not-so-festive experience. Bassist Christer Nilsson (also of the Shermans) and drummer Jesper Nyren complement Roger Gunnarsson's guitar and backing vocals on the handclap-heavy and lighthearted "Dayplanner," making it clear that this band has its heart set on flooding the listener with twee pop sensibilities and dance-ready rhythms. The pace finally slows down on "Rain Go Away," but only for one track. "I Don't Love You" marks a return of the band's jangly guitars, steady rhythm, and Aldervall's melodic and at times operatic vocals. The disc ends with a lively cover of the Cat's Miaow's "Be With You," complete with horns and handclaps at the song's end. Truly, a refreshing and noteworthy addition to the long line of sincere and unabashedly happy indie pop.
