It wasn’t often that Isaac Hayes sung not for lovers, but he gets his own volume in the Sings for Lovers series anyway. By no means definitive, Sings for Lovers nonetheless is a decent overview of Hayes' ‘70s albums, though the number of radio edits detract from the epic scope of his best output. It’s not as if there wasn’t any room for a couple more album versions; the disc is 58 minutes in length. The 1976 albums Groove-A-Thon and Juicy Fruit (Disco Freak) get a surprising amount of attention, but there are several big guns, like “I Can’t Turn Around,” “Joy, Pt. 1,” “The Look of Love,” and “(They Long to Be) Close to You.”
