[Edit]John Dragonetti aka Jack Drag has certainly carved a name for himself thanks to his top-shelf musicianship as a poetically witty singer/songwriter. His emotional lyrics are comically cultural and vocally translucent, and his sophomore effort Soft Songs LP: Aviating soars into the mind of this intelligent soul. Jack Drag picks up the artistic pieces of where his critically acclaimed debut, 1998's Dope Box, left off with his particular knack for shaping American trad rock into abstract post-grunge purity. No big studio rock here, Jack Drag makes music flow like it should without all the fancy production; light string arrangements dress over flaky plucking acoustics, simplistic sounds similar to Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous, Eels frontman E, and Wilco's Jeff Tweedy. Soft Songs LP: Aviating is a laugh in the face of corporate rock.
