Details
[Edit]This early James Newton Howard score is clearly a product of its time, but while written for Synclavier, Five Corners has dated marginally better than other synthesizer scores from the mid-'80s. Howard's moody, evocative soundscapes presage the bold melodies of his better-known and more mature efforts, while his grasp of drama and attention to detail are particularly impressive. But his efforts here are not served well by Varese Sarabande's choppy, fragmented CD release, nor does the music fare too successfully apart from its accompanying narrative. Now long out of print, Five Corners fetches big bucks from soundtrack collectors, but only hardcore Howard enthusiasts should even consider opening their wallets.
