[Edit]Saxophonist Jeff Coffin is best known for his long membership in The Flecktones and (more recently) The Dave Matthews Band. But his own projects are often more based on jazz, with top-flight players joining him: this time it's Flecktone drummer Futureman, bassist Felix Pastorius, trumpeter Bill Fanning, and keyboardist Chris Walters, as well as several guests. Mu’tet is shortened from mutation, and the music mutates wildly from the late-‘60s Impulse! Records vibe of “Peace Now” to the New Orleans second line of “Steppin’ Up” to the nasty blues funk of “Scratch That Itch.” It's eclectic and inclusive; there’s a lot happening here.
