McCain's career didn't quit with his Excello sides of the 1950s. He went on to cut his most remembered singles ("She's Tough" and "Steady") for the Rex label and kept cutting a steady stream of obscure but inspired 45s and a stray album for labels like Jewel, OKeh, Continental, Gas, Esco, Bad, and Royal American. Sixteen of the best sides are compiled on this one with "What About You" and "Rough Stuff" emanating from the same groove-filled session that produced "She's Tough" and "Steady." "Ting-Tang-Tagalu," "Welfare Cadillac Blues," and the soulful "I'll Come Running Back for More" are all highlights, but the closer "Pussycat A-Go-Go," issued as the Shindigs and supposedly featuring Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs as the backing group, may be the blues at both its hippest and most surreal. Like the title says, good stuff.
