[Edit]Trombone/piano duet albums are not overly common, but they tend to be quite successful. Trombonist Jiggs Whigham, an American who moved to Germany years ago, and German pianist Wolfgang Köhler make for an ideal matchup. While Whigham is usually in the lead, Köhler is also a fine soloist and an excellent accompanist, and serves quite expertly as the full rhythm section. The relaxed outing features Whigham's subtle wit, a variety of warm moods and tempos, and a solo spot for Köhler on Bix Beiderbecke's "In a Mist." Everything works well.
