KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic radio program has seen its share of living legends, but few fit that description better than reggae's Jimmy Cliff. Here, with guitar in hand, he shows exactly how it's done, performing with such skill that he makes it look easy. As with all true professionals, his mix of natural talent and years of experience combine for a certain x-factor. From the opening notes of his classic song "Trapped" (covered in a much different way by Bruce Springsteen), it's apparent that Cliff is in top form. His 2012 studio album Rebirth was an inspired affair, and his cover of The Clash's "Guns of Brixton" (itself a tribute to men like Cliff) returns the favor. A cool slide-blues guitar works itself into "World Upside Down." His positive message leads to a defiant performance of "Wonderful World, Beautiful People," where his voice opens up like no other. Other classics, such as "Many Rivers to Cross" and "I Can See Clearly Now," are met with material from his new album, including the strong closer "One More."
