Details
[Edit]Recorded in 1992 but released in 1996 for the first time, this set featured the cool-toned guitarist Joe Carter in a pleasing bossa-nova date. Carter teams up with three Brazilian musicians (Mauricio Einhorn on harmonica, bassist Luis Alves and drummer Joao Cortez) for a set that includes five Antonio Carlos Jobim songs, Luis Bonfa's "Samba de Orfeu" and two originals by Einhorn among the ten tunes. Of Carter's sidemen, Einhorn's harmonica playing immediately reminds one of Toots Thieleman's although his technique is not on the same level (whose is?) while Alves and Cortez play the gentle rhythms with taste and sensitivity. Most of the set can easily fall into the genre of easy listening for Carter's playing is quite soothing and peaceful. Little excitement occurs but the music is so well-played that one rarely minds.
