In 2001, Philippine independent label Star Records released Jolina: Panaginip — Platinum Hits Collection (Jolina: Dream — Platinum Hits Collection), a collection of songs taken from three albums recorded by Philippine female artist Jolina Magdangal for the label between 1998 and 2001. The album contains 14 songs. The music comprises easy listening love songs which come from 1998's Jolina as well as remakes of '50s and early-'60s American tunes which come from 1999's On Memory Lane. Only one song, "Laging Tapat (Deep House Mix)" (Always Faithful), comes from 2001's Red Alert: All Hits Dance Remix/Klubber's Guidebook. Several easy listening songs, including the exquisite "Sana'y Kapiling Ka" (I Hope You're With Me), were first heard as movie theme songs (and also released on soundtracks), but were also included on 1998's Jolina, her Star Records debut. The easy listening songs are enjoyable as far as easy listening music is concerned, and though they may not pose much of a challenge, Jolina Magdangal delves into the lyrics and melodies, and probably no one could make the songs sound better. Jolina Magdangal is also a popular actress, and was known as a teenage star in the early to mid-'90s. She made 1998's Jolina at the age of 20. She has talent and her development has been remarkable, even in the short time between 1998 and 1999's On Memory Lane. Her voice has matured and has depth, and her delivery is poised. Her rendition of Ray Charles' "Crying Time," for example, is marked by its sincerity and poised delivery. This album is a fine collection of Jolina Magdangal's music.
