[Edit]Former Dr. Dog drummer Juston Stens returned to the guitar and piano to pen the tracks for Trash or Treasure, and the resulting album sounds like no other. Recorded in a variety of locations from Tucson (with his friends Golden Boots) to Black Mountain, N.C., and his home base of Philadelphia, Trash or Treasure sounds like it was recorded across decades. Its unusual production effects create reverbs that could either be locked in the '50s or from the distant future. "Heavy Metal Heart" cruises near hard rock. "Don't Let Go" waltzes into the parlor. "When Fire Burns Out" sounds like a garage band locating its inner Tex-Mex. "Lonely Lonely Night" recalls Beck's most reflective work. "Falling" features a vocal chorus that emphasizes a retro-ballad feel. "Edge of Moon" adds punchy electric guitar to a classic old-school soul ballad. "Collider" features French guitarist Naim Amor and a strong, evocative Hammond organ for some rainy-day blues.
