[Edit]By the time he released his debut album in 1986, Kool Moe Dee was already a veteran of New York's hip-hop scene and a college graduate with a communications degree. Although emcees like Rakim would soon revolutionize the art of rhyming, Moe Dee embodied irreproachable authority. At the same time, he was musically openminded. His debut is a cipher for all the emergent styles in mid-'80s hip-hop, from the skeletal bass of “Go See the Doctor” to the electro of “Bad Mutha” to the tricky R&B of “Rock Steady,” produced by a soon-to-be-famous teenager named Teddy Riley.
