More's press materials like to refer to its sound as "modern rock." But it's pretty clear that if the Second Time Around EP had appeared a decade or more earlier, it would be a solid hard rock/metal offering. Vocalist Tom Morrissey bears some similarity to Queensrÿche's Geoff Tate in both sound and emotion, and the band's dual guitars and athletic rhythm section seem very comfortable with the straightforward rock (read: not alternative rock) dynamics of "Sings" and "Someone Like No One." Even "Necessary," with its crackling lead guitar line and grunge-era chorus, still reaches refreshingly back to a time when bands didn't have qualms about huge-voiced vocalists and solo-heavy rockers.
