Mystery upon mystery: who is Naph-Tali? Just who is the shadowy producer and labelhead Jah Warrior? And what's with the numerological referents that follow every mention of the persons and organizations involved in the production of this album and its cover art (except for the backing musicians)? No matter. This is yet another solid entry in the Jah Warrior catalog, which features some of the best modern roots reggae to come out of England in the last decade. Although the backing tracks are all digital, the rhythms, the lyrics, and the overall feel are deeply rooted in the cultural reggae tradition that had its heyday in the mid-1970s. And Naph-Tali himself is a fine, if not earth-shaking vocalist; on songs like "Visionary Dream" and "What About the Story" his mystical delivery and sometimes quavery tenor recall roots predecessors like Prince Alla and Yabby You. Jah Warrior's dub versions, which follow every track, are nicely realized. Recommended.
