Details
[Edit]Outrageous Cherry is becoming one of those steadily consistent bands known best to the members of more popular groups. But all the appreciation from the members of Wilco can only bring the band so far and eventually it’s up to others to discover the majestic weirdness and pop accessibility of a tune as grungy as “Unbalanced In the City” or as droning and gorgeous as “Fell,” where the band seemingly take the Jesus and Mary Chain and turn it into an alternate wall of impenetrable sound. “My Ghetto” throws things into a jaunty gait that if stripped of its murk would be something easily found on a mid-'60s pop record. This Detroit band don’t simply aim for Motor City aggression but rather zero in on subtleties that makes them a great headphone listen. “Self-Made Monster” is a simple garage-rock stomper. “The Happy Hologram” kick-steps a country lope for the group’s equivalent of a ballad. Matthew Smith is that perfect anonymous singer, who could be the leader of any number of obscure garage bands compiled on those Nuggets and Pebbles collections.
