Details
[Edit]A Brick City rapper who got his start as a founding member of The Outsidaz (with Young Zee, D.U., and others), Pacewon made early appearances rhyming alongside The Fugees (on fan favorite "Cowboys" from The Score) and Redman. He dropped a gang of quality 12-inches in the late '90s and early '00s (most notably "I Declare War" and "Sunroof Top"), plus two group albums, before releasing the solo joints Won and Telepathy. Strapped with a rugged, smoked-out flow, he effortlessly combines punchline humor and deviant behavior, and he's maintained a cultlike following despite limited commercial airplay. The Only Number That Matters Is Won is his second full-length entirely produced by Mr. Green (following 2008's The Only Color That Matters Is Green) and again finds the two joining forces for no-nonsense, '90s-style hip-hop, full of classic breakbeats, chunky bass, and chopped samples a-plenty. While many older artists bend over backward trying to reinvent themselves for today's listeners, Pace and Green wisely maintain their blue-collar styles. Check out "Something to Say" with Masta Ace, "Ever Since," "My God," and the Snoop-assisted closer "Lock Me Up."
