Details
[Edit]Congolese soukous legend, Papa Wemba, relocated to Paris in 1988, and while he still sings in his native Lingala, his mix of Congolese rhythms and European influences has moved increasingly in a cosmopolitan direction, and at this point in his career, he practically defines the concept of urban worldbeat. He also has a sharp eye for fashion, and thoroughly understands the importance of visual impact in his music. This generous two-disc collection is a wonderful introduction to this stylish musician. Highlights include the Congolese rumba of "Jeancy," and the gentle "Hommage."
