Details
[Edit]Quinn Lemley, a singing actress who has played Rita Hayworth in a one-woman show, loves vintage standards and obscurities from movies and Broadway plays. Her singing, although open to the influence of swinging jazz, also falls into cabaret and is often quite dramatic if not overly subtle. Joined by a well-rehearsed quartet featuring pianist James Sampliner and altoist Marc McDonald, Lemley is heard on this CD performing a tight and fast-moving show from 2003 at the Half Note in Athens, Greece. Her repertoire fits her image as a Hollywood bombshell of the 1940s and '50s, and her expressive voice matches her personality. Overall, Quinn Lemley's show is entertaining (though "Santa Baby" would have been better at half the tempo) and is probably well worth seeing live. Clearly, she has found the perfect outlet to display her love and admiration for vintage screen actresses.
