Details
[Edit]The first album as a leader for trumpeter Richard Boulger is pretty impressive. The music ranges from boppish to spacy ("Cosmic Interplay") with Boulger often displaying the influence of Freddie Hubbard. He teams up with tenor saxophonist Kris Jensen (who doubles on flute), utilizes two different rhythm sections (including one with pianist Aaron Goldberg and bassist Reuben Rogers), and welcomes Eddie Henderson to three numbers, holding his own with the older trumpeter. Paulette Barnes has a guest vocal on an effective version of "Please Send Me Someone to Love," and Boulger's originals are excellent. Most impressive are his appealing tone and versatility. Recommended.
