Details
[Edit]An excellent introduction to Roberto Firpo's influential tango style, 1920-44 surveys the vast range of the pianist's work, from his early acoustic orchestra recordings to his later quartet dates. Given the sheer breadth of Firpo's catalog, it's inevitable that the set misses more than a few essential recordings, but it's particularly effective in documenting his formative period, and the vintage sound of all these dates offers an evocative glimpse into a key era in the tango's evolution.
