Details
[Edit]Based on his name, album artwork, and the titles of previous releases (Substance Abuse, George Kush—Da Button, and T.H.C. (The Hustlers Catalog)), you might think that Smoke DZA is just a one-trick pony. In reality, he's a formidable MC with more diverse subject matter than you might expect, plus a truly unique voice and a great ear for beats. Representing for Harlem, he's got a weird, semi-raspy flow and a knack for vivid storytelling, whether painting pictures of his Uptown surroundings, professing his dedication to real hip-hop, or big-upping Polo gear. Solid guest verses come from Bun B, Big K.R.I.T., Curren$y, Fiend, ASAP Rocky, and Kendrick Lamar, while key tracks include "Loudest Batch," "Ball Game," "Pow Wow," and "Overhigh." Surprisingly deep and loaded with extraordinary production (from 183rd and V.Don, among others), this is one of 2011’s finest.
