[Edit]Born in Berne, Switzerland and spending part of youth in England and Germany, this Euro-based singer-songwriter has been slowly growing her audience throughout the world. This self-titled U.S. collection compiles tracks from her European albums, 2008’s Monday’s Ghost and 2010’s 1983. From the first notes of “Leave Me With the Monkeys,” it’s apparent what so bewitched Swiss listeners, sending Hunger to the top of their charts. She is a self-assured vocalist who can apply her voice to any dynamic thrown at her. “Your Personal Religion” is a solid mix of acoustic and electric elements; Hunger sings over each with a sensitive ear. “Lovesong to Everyone” adds an indelible riff to its light, fluffy beat, as the menacing electronics hover overheard. “Headlights” is the stunning ballad. “Sophie Hunger Blues” is the beatnik folkie inside her taking flight. “The Tourist” is the hard rocker inside her getting revenge.
