Details

[Edit]

With his casual flow, honest and autobiographical wordplay, and ear for next-level beats, Sunspot Jonz has remained a subterranean favorite unaffected by current trends and the fickle currents of commercial rap music. A 23-track sequel to last year's Galaxy of Dreams, this album finds him railing against the game's ignorance-is-bliss mindstate ("Leroy Jonz"), professing his appreciation for the true culture ("I Love Hip Hop"), and ongoing dedication to herbs ("Bluntcation"). Features come from likeminded co-conspirators and frequent collaborators Aceyalone, Kirby Dominant, Luckyiam, Himself, and Mike Marshall, while producers include Mr. Nemo, Chris Keys, and Nima Fadavi (Rise of the Revolution). While Sunspot's loopy, conversational rhyme style and subdued, rough-around-the-edges beats aren't for everyone, there's plenty of good stuff here, and old-school Living Legends fans will want to immediately snap this up. Highlights include "The Matador," "Underground Legend 2012," and "Willie's Windy Night Blues."
