Details
[Edit]The group's only full-fledged album (only two local 45s were their previous recorded legacy), this consists of two sessions recorded both live and in the studio in 1984 and 1985, respectively. On the live tracks recorded at the University of Memphis and on the majority of the studio sides, the Harps are a quartet, but on three tracks, their ranks swell to that of a quintet. Those used to strong singing with lots of shouting and melisma to the vocals will find the work of the Harps totally different, rising in various cascading voicings with consummate ease in a far more 'sweet' and soft style of gospel phrasing. Acapella versions of their singles, "Lord, Bless the Weary Soldier in Vietnam" and "Two Little Fishes and Five Loaves of Bread" are here along with a baker's dozen of fine standards given the unique Harps of Melody touch. For gospel singing with a decided and wonderful difference, this is a collection well worth seeking out.
