Details
[Edit]A perfect example of the right sound at the wrong time, The Unband came out of Massachusetts in the early '90s, bringing with it a classic rock style heavily and unapologetically influenced by many of the standard-bearers: KISS, Billy Squier, AC/DC, Ratt, etc. After building a strong local rep via wildman stage antics and unabashedly over-the-top songs almost exclusively about various vices and rock ‘n’ roll, the band finally scored a major-label deal with TVT. Retarder was The Unband's first (and last) official album, which led to several years on the road opening for bands like Motörhead, Def Leppard, Great White, and Dio. Although its songs and shows were all about nonstop partying, The Unband was just a little too early for the ironic arena-rock rebirth (see: Andrew W.K.). Instead, the group went the usual route of infighting, cutout bins, and detox. Though Retarder never topped the charts, it's still a riotous collection of old-school good-time rawk, especially tracks like "Geez Louise" (featured in Super Troopers), "Crack Soundtrack," and "Drink and Rock."
