Tito Paris shows in this album that he is truly one of most talented Cape Verdean performers. His smoky earthy vocals accompanied by a bevy of accomplished musicians from Cape Verde and the French Antilles make for repeated good listening and dancing. Most of the tracks are danceable with the exception of a few slow ballads. With this album, he has truly come into his own as an exceptionally gifted vocalist and guitar player. Here, as on his other albums, the horns are bright and fat with a fine touch in the arrangements. The percussion, subtle but insistent, is plentiful and keeps the whole album on the burner. "Preto E Mi" soulfully sung by Fernando Girao swings smoothly in that Cape Verdean groove that is so infectious. "Mar Di Ilheu" is a hot coladeira that is aimed at dancers' feet and hits its mark for over six minutes. An album to duplicate on your CD burner just in case the original becomes unplayable. An album that will be listened to and danced for a long time to come. Highly recommended.
