Details
[Edit]Hailing from San Francisco's Mission District, Total Devastation arrived on the scene in the early ‘90s, scoring a huge hit with their timeless single "Many Clouds of Smoke." Like Cypress Hill before them, TD was three guys, a mix of Latino and Black, enthusiastic about weed, and equipped with some truly great beats. On their first album, released in 1993, they rhyme almost exclusively about the myriad benefits of marijuana, extolling the virtues of fine hydroponic on selections like "Hemp Rally," "Fat Blunt Caper," "Zooted," and "Cloud Nine." The production is sample-centric and consistently sharp, brimming with organ riffs, guitar snippets, thunderous bass lines, and aggressive drum breaks. Total Devastation continue to put out new music sporatically over the years, touring occasionally (as a duo), but this record remains their most impressive, and still stands up as a stoner rap masterpiece. Whether you're a wake-and-bake cheeba chimney or you just dig the smoky samples, this is most definitely worth a listen.
