One of the most popular and consistent artists in the Houston scene, Trae has been grinding since the late ‘90s and continues to drop high quality albums on a regular basis. Late Night Kings is his sixth solo piece (not counting roughly a dozen collabo projects with Guerilla Maab, Z-RO, and S.L.A.B.), and fits within his standard formula of self-reflective wordplay à la Scarface, delivered in his unique, laid-back deep drawl and set to production that is generally slower, funkier, and more melodic than many of his Dirty South peers. Some of the tracks are a little overblown with the Auto-Tune and/or male R&B hooks, but most of these 20 selections are dope as expected. Check out the title track, "Night Off," and "Quit Callin.”
