Details
[Edit]The ancient rudra-vina was the courtly instrument of choice until the 19th century. Ustad Asad Ali Khan comes of a tradition stretching back at least four centuries. Here he plays Darbari Kanada, a solemn night-time raga, and Gunakali, a morning raga expressing sorrow at the absence of a loved one. Both have all the rhythmic variety and melodic subtlety that are the hallmarks of the rudra-vina in the hands of a master. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music, Rovi
