Details
[Edit]Cornetist Wild Bill Davison is heard in typically exuberant form on this second 1996 CD of performances made with trombonist Papa Bue's Viking Jazz Band in the mid-'70s. While Jensen (who can emulate Kid Ory whenever he wants to), the fluid clarinetist Jorgen Svare and guest tenor Ben Jaedig have their spots, Davison is the dominant force; every note that he plays is full of intense emotion. Best is a lengthy and riffing rendition of "Christopher Columbus" (which has Jaedig's only appearance), but other highlights include Wild Bill's repeated stabbing high notes on "Creole Love Call" and the hot playing on "Our Monday Date," "Fidgety Feet" and "White Cliffs of Dover"; even Davison's vocal on "All of Me" is full of spirit. Highly recommended to Dixieland and Chicago jazz collectors, as is the first volume.
