[Edit]Veteran tenors Yusef Lateef and Ricky Ford team up for this frequently explosive set. Their seven originals all pay tribute to various tenormen (James Moody, Stanley Turrentine, Sonny Rollins, Jimmy Heath, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson and Lateef himself) and the two lead voices, while not copying their inspirations, occasionally insert some of their trademark phrases. Electric bassist Avery Sharpe and drummer Kamal Sabir offer fairly accessible and often-funky backings, but one's main focus is on the intense playing of the two great tenors, who battle it out in fiery fashion.
