Taking cues from early indie pop bands Beat Happening and Tiger Trap, the Frenchmen formed in late 2001 with members Amy Paris (vocals, bass), Charles Albright (drums), Leon Levy (vocals, guitar), and Niki Ortiz (guitar). Following a 7" on Shelflife and a 2003 tour that included the Pop Fantasy show in San Francisco with Boyracer and the Lucksmiths, the band released its debut full-length, Sorry We Ruined Your Party, on Clairecords.
